Simon Lazev

President

Simon graduated from GW in 2019 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. While at GW, he played tuba in the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Orchestra, and sousaphone in CBrass. He served in the Band’s Officer Corps from 2016 to 2019, and as the Secretary of GWUBAF from 2020 to 2022. Simon currently works as an Associate Track Engineer at WMATA. His favorite GW Band concert was “Nightsongs” in Fall 2018 and his favorite CBrass piece is “All The Small Things”.

Steve Goldsmith

Director of Finance

Steve graduated from GW in 1998 with a B.B.A in Finance where he played Trombone (poorly) in both the Symphonic Band and the Pep Band. He served as Band President his senior year.  Steve has worked in various nonprofit accounting functions over the past 25 years. His favorite GW Band moment (other than meeting his future wife) was quickly learning “Hail to the Chief” when President Bill Clinton unexpectedly decided to attend a GW Men’s Basketball game versus #1 ranked UMass in 1995.

Henry McCabe

Director of Administration

Henry graduated from GW in 2023 with a BA in political science. During their time in GW bands, Henry was a percussionist in Symphonic Band and Pep Band and served as Logistics Manager (2021-2023). Following their time at GW, they worked as an open source researcher and are now pursuing a Master’s degree in History at the London School of Economics. Their favorite Pep Band songs are “Jungle Boogie” and “Holliday.”

Matt Brooks

Director of Collegiate Activities

Matt graduated from GW in 2025 with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Music. He played horn in the Wind Ensemble and mellophone in the Pep Band. Matt served on the Band’s Officer Corps as President (2022–2023) and as TA (2024–2025). He currently works as a bartender while pursuing opportunities in politics and government. His favorite Pep Band songs are “Sir Duke” and “All the Small Things”, and his favorite moment was watching Trey Autry’s three consecutive three-pointers that secured GW’s first A-10 tournament win in four years.

Claire Lazev

Director of Development

Claire graduated from GW in 2019 with a B.S. in Finance and Economics. While at GW, she played clarinet in Symphonic Band and CBrass for 2 years, before learning the tenor saxophone for CBrass. Claire currently works as an Analyst at Standard Communities, an apartment firm focused on developing and preserving affordable housing communities. Her favorite CBrass pieces are Hey Baby and Crazy in Love.

Noah Curtiss

Director of Programming

Noah graduated from GW in 2019 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering where he played Euphonium in the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and CBrass. Noah currently works as an Satellite Operations Engineer at NOAA specializing in spacecraft navigation. His favorite symphonic piece was “Lincolnshire Posy” and his favorite CBrass song is “The Impression That I Get”.

Austin Reading

Director of Communications

Austin graduated from GW in 2016 with a B.A. in Political Science and in 2023 with a M.A. in International Education. As an undergrad, Austin played the trumpet in Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Pep Band. Currently, Austin works in graduate admissions in the School of Engineering & Applied Science at GW. His favorite Pep Band song is “The Impression that I get.” Austin previously served on the GWUBAF Board of Directors from 2018–2020.
